Did you know? Over 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans every year1 and the predictions for the future are far from reassuring. By 2025, the seas could shelter about 160 million tonnes of plastic2 and even worse, by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish3. Our marine ecosystem is in jeopardy because of our consumption habits and our reliance on plastic. Look around you and you’ll surely see some water bottles, plastic bags, or food packaging that aren’t always recyclable! The best way to save our oceans and the species living in them is to reduce our plastic use. This is exactly what OceanSaver is aiming to do by providing solutions to help us consume less plastic.
Name: OceanSaver
Description: Company providing household solutions to help reduce plastic use
HQ Location: UK
OceanSaver’s mission
OceanSaver is a company that combats plastic over-use and marine pollution by offering consumers innovative alternatives to plastics. The UK-based organisation focuses on household items and offers biodegradable paper straws, wooden cutlery, as well as bamboo cotton buds. But OceanSaver is mainly known for its ingenious cleaning pods.
Eco-friendly cleaning
How many cleaning sprays are sitting under your sink right now? Probably a lot. OceanSaver has created biodegradable cleaning pods that allow you to use the same spray bottle for life. These pods contain a highly concentrated cleaning formulation and are made of dissolvable film. The concept is simple: you put a pod in your cleaning bottle filled with warm water, wait for the active ingredients to dilute into the water, and you’re good to go. The advantage is that you don’t have to buy any more cleaning sprays, and you get to reduce your plastic waste as well as the energy that would have been required to collect, recycle, re-fill, and re-distribute more bottles.
We're also doing our bit for the future with our Ethical Investment Plans, which allow you to invest in companies striving to do good whilst excluding activities considered harmful to the environment and society.
Companies with high ethical standards, like OceanSaver, are more common than you think! Check out our blog about Mohawk’s eco-friendly practices.
